Minecraft Dungeons 2 introduces two new proper nouns worth keeping straight: the Sift, a dimension, and Brave Haven, a town. They’re not the same kind of place, and mixing them up makes the game’s own quest descriptions confusing. Here’s exactly what Mojang and Xbox have said about each.

What is the Sift?

The Sift is the new dimension confirmed for Minecraft Dungeons 2, reached during the story alongside the familiar Overworld. Minecraft.net’s own gameplay-systems article describes your quests as taking you “across both the Sift and the Overworld to uncover the source of the strange events unfolding,” treating it as a second full setting rather than a side area.

Mojang has framed reaching the game’s ending as a shared goal across both settings, not two separate campaigns you clear one after the other. The Sift is where the story’s stranger threats live, based on how Minecraft.net introduces it: “an uncharted dimension of threats, mysteries, and breathtaking beauty.”

What is Brave Haven?

Brave Haven is Minecraft Dungeons 2’s hub town, the base you return to between runs. Xbox Wire’s gamescom 2026 preview describes starting a full demo “in the game’s bucolic hub town, Brave Haven,” before heading out to a boss fight, which confirms it functions as the game’s home base rather than a one-time story location.

Two named vendors live in Brave Haven according to that same preview: the Blacksmith, who upgrades your existing gear’s power level and lets you re-roll an item’s built-in effect for a fee, and the Enchantsmith, where you apply enchantment books from your personal library onto gear. Xbox Wire also confirms Brave Haven connects to the wider world by minecart, since the gamescom demo used “a minecart fast travel system” leaving from the town to reach a boss fight.

How are the Sift and Brave Haven different?

Think of it as base versus destination. Brave Haven is where you shop, plan your build and start your next run; the Sift is one of the places that run can take you. That split matters for a simple reason: any gear or story detail described as happening “in the Sift” is about the dimension, while anything about a smith, a vendor or minecart departure is about Brave Haven itself.

The Sift Brave Haven
What it is A new dimension The hub town
What you do there Fight through story and side content Shop, upgrade gear, start runs
Confirmed features Illager invasion, story threats tied to the main quest Blacksmith, Enchantsmith, minecart fast travel out
Return trips Story-driven, not a base You come back here between every run

Why is the Sift under threat?

Minecraft.net’s gameplay-systems article ties the Sift’s danger to illagers moving in to exploit it during the story, which is why quests send you there rather than it being a background setting. The exact villain plans and story beats beyond that framing haven’t been detailed in the official pages we checked, so we’re not speculating on plot specifics here.

Quick FAQ

Do I need to finish the Overworld before visiting the Sift? Not confirmed. Mojang describes journeying across “both the Sift and the Overworld” during the story rather than gating one behind finishing the other, but the exact story order hasn’t been published.

Is Brave Haven the only hub town? That’s the only hub town Mojang and Xbox’s official coverage names as a base you return to; some concept art from previews shows other named locations, but we cover the exploration map and those locations separately in our open-world guide rather than repeating it here.

Can I fast travel out of Brave Haven whenever I want? Xbox Wire’s preview confirms a minecart fast travel system leaving Brave Haven exists and was used to reach a boss fight; exactly when it unlocks or how often you can use it hasn’t been detailed.

Is the enchant smith only in Brave Haven? Every mention of the Enchantsmith in official previews places it in Brave Haven. For how to actually use it, see our enchanting guide.

Not confirmed yet

The Sift’s full biome list, its connection to the game’s villain, and whether Brave Haven has additional vendors beyond the Blacksmith and Enchantsmith haven’t been published by Mojang or Xbox as of this writing. Some fan wikis describe additional Sift terrain details and extra hub locations; we’re leaving those out until an official source confirms them, since wiki entries on unreleased games sometimes get ahead of what’s actually been shown.

For how the wider map and exploration work outside these two named locations, see our open-world guide. For the bosses you’ll meet along the way, see our Twisted Warden and Copper Monstrosity guide.
