The Minecraft Dungeons 2 best loot gear stacks four effects: Rarity for better tiers, Looter for extra drops, Luck for duplicates and Prospector for emeralds. Talismans and a few special items add more on top. Enchantments and artifacts do not touch loot, so your gear slots do all the work.
| Effect | What it does | Tiers | Where it rolls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rarity | Chance of a higher-rarity drop | 1 / 2 / 3% | Weapons, melee or ranged |
| Looter | Chance of extra drops | 20 / 40 / 60% | Weapons |
| Luck | Chance to duplicate an item | 10 / 15 / 20%, 30% on uniques | Armor |
| Prospector | More emeralds | 5 / 10 / 15% | Each armor piece |
What do the four loot effects do?
Rarity raises the chance that a drop comes out a tier higher. It is small at 1, 2 or 3%, and it works on any melee or ranged weapon. Players say it seems to help with chests.
Looter gives extra drops from killed enemies, at 20, 40 or 60%. This is the big number, and the one that matters when you are clearing mobs.
Luck sits on armor and can duplicate an item: 10, 15 or 20%, and 30% on uniques. It pays off mainly from tougher mobs such as evokers and soul-corrupted enemies.
Prospector adds emeralds. It rolls on every armor piece at 5, 10 or 15%, so four pieces at tier 3 add up to 60%. With the emerald cap at 9,999, spend as you go or the extra is lost.
What are the best loot talismans?
Two talismans help, and both level up with use.
- Lucky Clover: extra loot, sitting in a secret chest in Frozen Highlands. The route is in our secret talismans guide.
- Looter’s Charm: the reward for the Gone Fishing side quest near the Frozen Fortress. It gains loot chance as you clear enemies. Some players call it Loot’s Charm.
Look both up in the gear database. There is no talisman for Luck.
Which loot items are worth chasing?
- Monarch Crown: drops in Frozen Highlands and Lullaby Hills, not from the Monarch boss. Players report it as the strongest single loot piece.
- Prospector’s Pick: a weapon that adds emeralds. Pickaxes drop in Howling Woods, Deep Dark, Cinder and Humbler Huskland, and a Highlands quest also rewards one.
- Oracle Sandals: carry Rarity and come from a side quest in the Humbler Huskland area.
- A Lullaby Hills talisman from a secret chest also adds emerald chance.
Check the Frozen Highlands and Lullaby Hills pages when planning a route.
How do you set up a loot build?
| Slot | Effect to roll | Max value |
|---|---|---|
| Melee weapon | Looter | 60% |
| Ranged weapon | Rarity | 3% |
| Helmet | Luck or Prospector | 20% / 15% |
| Chestplate | Luck or Prospector | 20% / 15% |
| Leggings | Prospector | 15% |
| Boots | Prospector | 15% |
| Talismans | Lucky Clover, Looter’s Charm | Rises with level |
You cannot roll the same effect twice on one item, so spread them across slots. Higher tiers are level-gated: if you see a tier 2 effect on a weapon, tier 3 is within reach as you level. Rare and special gear can be re-rolled at the Blacksmith to chase the effect you want, and our enchanting guide covers re-roll costs.
Equip your loot gear before opening chests, and again before a storm. Players split the perks by what they act on: the extra-drops perk affects enemies you kill, while the higher-rarity perk seems to work on chests, so swap to the right piece before the right moment. Do not hoard weak gear while you test rolls. Dismantling spare pieces pays emeralds, and disenchanting returns the item itself, so experiments are cheap.
Should you run loot gear or damage gear?
Run loot gear when the content is safe for you: boss rematches you can beat, low-risk dungeons and chest runs. Switch to damage gear when you are not comfortable. A death costs more than any 3% rarity roll.
- Loot gear: boss rematches you can win, dungeon clears, emerald runs.
- Damage gear: hard Soul Storms, new bosses, anything where you are underpowered.
- Mixed: put Looter on the weapon and keep your armor on defense, a safe middle ground.
The Soul Storm guide has the storm timing, and the farming guide has the routes.
