A Minecraft Dungeons 2 soul storm starts every 40 minutes, lasts 20 minutes, and ends when you destroy its 3 storm generators. Each generator drops its own chest, and a final storm chest pays out when the storm is done. Players say these chests are among the best places to find gear with three effects.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| How often does a storm start? | Every 40 minutes |
| How long does it last? | 20 minutes |
| Which region is next? | Fixed rotation, the same for everyone (table below) |
| What ends a storm? | Destroying all 3 generators |
| What guards the generators? | Small turrets plus waves of soul-corrupted mobs |
| Rewards | One chest per generator, then a storm chest |
When does a Soul Storm start, and how long does it last?
The soul storm timer is a rolling cycle: a new storm every 40 minutes, with each one lasting 20. That leaves a quiet gap of about 20 minutes between storms. The map shows the active storm with a countdown, so you do not need to guess. Our map guide lists the storm icon alongside the other markers.
Because 20 minutes is a hard window, arrive with your build ready. Wandering over with gear you have not tuned is how people watch the timer run out with one generator left standing.
Which region is the next Soul Storm in?
The rotation is global and fixed, so once you know where the current storm is, you know the order that follows. Players report it runs through seven regions and then loops.
| Order | Region |
|---|---|
| 1 | Honeycomb Fields |
| 2 | Howling Woods |
| 3 | Singer’s Meadow |
| 4 | Rainy Plains |
| 5 | Humbler Huskland |
| 6 | Lullaby Hills |
| 7 | Frozen Highlands |
A full loop is seven storms, so a given region comes back about every 4 hours and 40 minutes. If you want a particular region’s gear, check the table, count how many storms away it is, and spend the wait on dungeons or boss rematches from the farming guide.
Each storm zone has several possible generator spots, so the layout can differ between visits even in the same region.
How do storm generators work?
Each storm has 3 storm generators, and each one is ringed by small turrets. Waves of soul-corrupted mobs spawn while you work, and bosses can show up too. Destroy all 3 and the storm ends.
The turrets are the part that catches people out. They shoot while you hack at the generator, so an approach that ignores them costs you a lot of health. Our empowered mob guide covers the tougher blue enemies that tend to tag along.
What rewards do Soul Storms give?
Two kinds of chest. Each generator you destroy opens its own special generator chest with a Soul Storm item inside. Finish all three and the storm chest opens at the end.
- Soul Storm items roll three effects and no commons, and a rare gets an extra effect slot.
- Items from a storm carry an extra Soul Storm modifier.
- Players also report more echo shards from harder storms.
Players put the Unique chance of a storm chest at around 20%, which is why the farming guide ranks storms first for Uniques. Uniques are not storm-only, though: some side quests guarantee one and they also sit in the general loot pool.
How does difficulty change a Soul Storm?
Harder storms bring tougher enemy types and better rewards. The game does not show a difficulty label on the storm itself, so what you see is the enemy line-up: plain soul-corrupted mobs mean an easy storm, and a heavy boss on the field means a hard one. Your own Easy, Normal or Hard setting still applies, and Uniques only drop from random loot on Normal or Hard.
If a storm looks too tough for your gear, skipping it costs you only 40 minutes. Taking a hard storm underpowered tends to end in a wipe and no reward.
How do you clear a Soul Storm fast?
- Open the map before the storm starts so you know the region and have time to travel.
- Equip loot gear before you arrive. The loot gear guide shows what to roll.
- Pick the nearest generator and deal with its turrets first. Ranged or area attacks work best.
- Break the generator and grab its chest straight away.
- Move to the next one while the wave you started is still thinned out.
- Watch the timer: with about 5 minutes left, go for the closest remaining generator.
- Open the storm chest, then check your drops.
Do not stop to chase every mob. They are a distraction from the generators unless they block your path.
What should you bring to a Soul Storm?
- A build with crowd control, since waves and turrets arrive together. Browse the build lab or the tier list.
- A ranged weapon or artifact for the turrets.
- Healing and a way to dodge projectiles. Players report bow enemies are brutal if you are underpowered.
- Loot effects on your gear, once survival is handled.
- Room under the 9,999 emerald cap and the 100 echo shard cap, so rewards are not wasted.

Not confirmed yet
Everything below is reported by players and we are verifying it in-game.
- The 40-minute cycle and 20-minute window: other players report roughly hourly storms that last closer to 40 minutes, so treat the timer as approximate
- Difficulty tiers by enemy type: easy storms use soul-corrupted zombies and vindicators only; medium adds a witch, evoker, Enderman, harmonizer, warden and dart back; hard adds a monstrosity
- A maximum-difficulty storm drops up to four items
- Harder storms pay more echo shards
- 5 to 9 possible generator spawn spots per zone
- Storm chest Unique chance about 20%
- Players saw no Uniques from storm chests in some runs, which may be a bug
